Are Christians Fighting a Culture War?

Are we at war? 

Everyday we’re confronted in the media by battles raging over civic freedoms, over individual rights, over government control, over the environment, over the economy, over critical race theory, over political correctness. Everywhere we look today seems to reflect that our entire culture is in a state of war.

While there are many battle lines being drawn, they seem to be divided along a general front. In a January 2022 report, the Manhattan Institute identified the intensifying struggle between cultural liberalism and cultural socialism as the fundamental dividing line that is polarizing our culture. This reflects a massive shift in philosophy of how western societies should be governed and organized. When you take a good look at the underlying differences, it seems no end of conflict could be expected.

For Christians in the west, it’s hard to not feel caught up in the battles. But is this the war that God is calling his people to fight? Should Christians be taking sides in the cultural battles going on around us? Is warfare ever an appropriate posture for followers of Jesus?
