“Street Smarts” by Gregory Koukl | Scott’s Book Recommendations
If you’re like most Christians, you may find it difficult, and even scary having faith conversations today. In many cases, Christians find themselves on the defence in a culture where Christianity is so often cast in a negative light. And yet our call by Jesus to be his witnesses to the world has not changed.
That’s why we want to recommend Greg Koukl’s book, Street Smarts: Using Questions to Answer Christianity’s Toughest Challenges.
Greg Koukl is a seasoned practitioner who’s spent 30+ years answering tough questions and objections to Christian faith. In Street Smarts, he builds off a technique for asking questions that he developed in his previous book, Tactics. Street Smarts provides the unfamiliar with a refreshed game plan for using questions to eliminate the pressure and defensiveness from difficult faith conversations. It’s an extremely helpful technique that reflects Jesus’ own tendency to use well placed questions to help people get to the real issues they needed to deal with.
What makes Street Smarts a welcome improvement to Tactics is the volume of practical, real-life example conversations that Koukl supplies to show how to employ the questioning techniques he puts forward. You’ll learn a tonne yourself just reading his able responses to some of Christianity’s greatest challenges.
If you want to grow in your confidence as a witness for Jesus, and become more effective and deliberate about witnessing to unbelievers who need Jesus, then Street Smarts is an excellent tool to get.
