How to Think Like Jesus About Dating
Christians generally understand that dating is a good and necessary pathway toward finding someone to marry. There’s no shortage of books written, therefore, to help guide Christians through the dating process. But that doesn’t take away the trickiness and potential pitfalls of dating.
Something Christians can do before starting to date is to think carefully about the fact that modern dating practices emerged from the changes in culture and society taking place during the late 19th and early 20th century. While that doesn’t automatically make them bad practices, it does mean that they were born from beliefs and goals that weren’t necessarily aligned with God’s kingdom purposes. So, how can Christians adopt dating as the socially accepted way to go about finding a spouse while still ensuring that dating aligns with God’s goals for his people?
In this episode, Scott and Shawn go back to the “Think Like Jesus” framework to explore how Jesus would think about dating. The point isn’t to give Christians dating advice, but to help Christians ask and answer the kinds of questions that Jesus would before we date.
