Admittedly much damage has been done to the public perception of Christianity through adamant and graceless claims that we are the sole possessors of truth. The ‘what’ of our message is imperiled if we ignore the ‘how’ of our witness. Armed with truth we must, as Paul says, “avoid arguments that produce quarrels,” (2 Tim. 2:23) but in kindness “teach and gently instruct” those who would oppose us, viewing them through the mercy of Jesus as ones presently captive to Satan. In other words we must actively be teaching Christian disciples how to thoughtfully marry grace and truth.
